The True Cost of Shipping Packages on Ebay and The Cost of Shipping Charges on Ebay

Many consumers are accustomed to shopping on line, but in spite of that, it is not unusual as a seller to get some complaints about the cost of shipping charges on Ebay. Only the seller really knows the true cost of shipping packages on Ebay because they are the ones putting the time and effort in to get the packages to the customers as quickly as possible.

Ebay Shipping charges are predetermined by the usps and UPS and any other carrier your customers may choose to have their package delivered from. As we all know, shipping charges are continuing to rise dramatically and just like the increase in the gas prices, the shipping increases have to be passed along to the customer. This, in turn, causes the Ebay seller to have to cut back on their handling fees to the extent where they are barely breaking even or even losing money on the Ebay shipping charges.

Many buyers don't understand all of the time and expenses that go into preparing a package on Ebay for shipping. For those Ebay sellers who print their own labels here is what transpires after a typical sale. The Ebay seller needs to find a box or envelope that will fit the item. If they don't sell the same items, they will need to take a few minutes to search for their packaging. Once they find the packaging, they have to pay for the packaging by going to a store or perhaps can find something laying around their house or office to ship their item in. This alone can be frustrating and time consuming, although many Ebay sellers, if they are selling the same product, have already done the leg work and have the packaging on hand.

For the Ebay seller who doesn't print their own shipping labels, the addresses need to be hand written. In both cases, if the package is international, a customs form needs to be filled out.

The next step in determining the shipping charges on Ebay is for the seller to package the sold item. This may mean that the package needs bubble wrap, packaging peanuts or tissue paper or some other type of packing material to keep the item secure. Once the item is in the box or packaging, it may need taped. Packaging tape is very expensive but is necessary to secure some of the packages. The item is taped and ready to be weighed if the Ebay seller prints their own postage. If not, the package is set aside for a trip to the post office later.

If the Ebay seller prints their own labels, then there is the cost of printer ink and paper and the cost of a scale to weigh the items. The Ebay seller weighs the item after it is packaged and then finds the order in their Paypal account or in their Ebay back office, clicks on the order, fills in the necessary information to print the label and then prints it. They wait until the label is printed and then apply it to the package.

The package still has to get to the post office so they either take it themselves (add the cost of gas and the time to get to the post office) or they call the post office and schedule a next day delivery. Once they get to the post office, they have to wait in long lines many times and then if the items are first class international (the postage cannot be printed online) or if they do not print their labels on line, they have to wait for the postmaster to weigh and put the postage on the package.

It may take, even for the most efficient ebay packager, up to 15 minutes or more for to get a package ready to go. For those of us who sell the same ebay products for the most part, it still takes a good 10 minutes for each package.

Then there are the Ebay and Paypal fees which are getting more and more expensive. The Ebay seller rarely is able to recoup those charges any more. I am a small powerseller and my ebay fees average $300-400 per month. My paypal fees are at least $200 per month. So even if I make a small profit on the items themselves, I may be losing money on the other fees, especially if the package is international. The international shipping rates are so high that many times, just to make a sale, you can't even add a handling fee.

If you are a consumer, I hope you understand some of the reasons the handling costs are included in your shipping charges. If you are an Ebay seller already then you can relate to this. If you are thinking of selling on Ebay, go for it, in spite of knowing the true cost of shipping packages on Ebay. It is still worth the time and effort for the most part.

Can't I Just Start Selling On Ebay Without All of These Products?

Why can't I just start selling on Ebay without buying any products that tell me how to do it? The answer is simple, you can.

Then, if it is so easy to sell on Ebay, why are you recommending a variety of products to help me get started? To cut down your learning curve and get you into profit much faster.

You can just set up an Ebay account and start selling stuff from around your house. In fact, I would highly recommend you do just that so you can experience, first hand, what the process entails. I can almost predict that once you list an item and it sells, you are going to want to list another after you see how easy it was. You may then list another and another and before long, you decide that selling on Ebay can be a fun, part-time business that can earn you a few hundred extra dollars per month.

That's great and it is fun and you can make some extra money selling on Ebay. But what if you decide that you want to take this to a next level - even if you do sell part time? Do you want to have to do trial and error and spend hours trying to figure out what to sell and how to sell it? What happens when you run out of your own stuff to sell and you want to start selling stuff for your friends and relatives and neighbors? It may just get a bit more complicated and having a blueprint from someone who has already been there and done that would be very helpful.

You can make a little bit of money on Ebay or you can make a lot. To make a lot, it's going to take work and knowledge that you don't have. You need an expert. You can start with the recommendations for the Ebay millionaire that I have on this blog because his information is inexpensive, or you can go to the Worldwide Brands website and glean tons of valuable information. Their product is more expensive but worth every penny if you want to build a serious Ebay business.

How to Build Your First EBAY Website in 10 Minutes for Just Under $100.

I've tried many programs on the internet, but one of the most impressive for those of you who prefer just to get started selling on Ebay right away is the BANS system.

This very inexpensive program will have you silently selling on Ebay in about 10 minutes. Why? You aren't really selling your own stuff. You are using technology that actually takes your own area of interest aka market niche, ie. golf, swimming, tennis, designer purses, etc. and brings all of the items that are for sale on Ebay directly to your own designer website. It's the technology that helps you create a website or series of where you show other people's Ebay products, advertise the link through multiple sources (which they also suggest) never have to touch any products, and still share in the revenue from those products. This can turn out to be an excellent way to get started selllng on Ebay very quickly.

I did this myself and am presently building my marketing niches. It's great fun, not very difficult to do, and as you promote your links, you will start to see sales without having to ever worry about where to find a product.

Just click the link below to discover how to sell on Ebay without using any of your own products and still make tons of money having fun doing it.

Learn Ebay From an Ebay Millionaire

If you want to learn how to sell on Ebay the right way, you will be better off learning from an expert who has a proven track record and over a million dollars in sales. Click here to take a look at what he has to offer. I am an Ebay newbie and although my earnings are increasing, the tips and advice he is giving me are going to take me to the next level.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT TO SELL ON EBAY - THE FIRST STEP

Another tip for Ebay success is to make sure you do your due diligence up front. Selling on Ebay is great fun if you don't intend to make it a full time business. You can collect items laying around your house, go to ebay, type your item into the search bar and see how many others are selling what you want to sell.

If you really intend to sell your item on Ebay, you will need to create an Ebay sellers account (click here to do that) Once you have created an account (a sellers account) you will want to redo your search. The next step will be to type the same search term into the search bar and then click on advanced search and look down the page for the words "completed listing". Once you find that, put a check in the box beside completed listing, scroll to the bottom of the page and hit search.

What this will do is bring up a page of your items, but you will see that some of the items have green numbers. Those green numbers represent items that have actually sold on Ebay. Take those numbers and see what buyers have paid for them. That way you can get an idea of how to price your own item to make it competitive in the Ebay sellers market.

Enough of the Ebay Rant. What is Good About Ebay?

Ebay is still a good place for sellers and you can still make some great part-time money. The key is spending some time finding a niche you really like and then finding the products to sell within that niche.

I mentioned SaleHoo to you in previous blogs. SaleHoo is a great place to explore products and get a discount on products you can sell, but an even better place for niche market selling is a place called Worldwide Brands. I have been a member for several years now and I have found some amazing deals on products and have gotten some great ideas for new products to sell on Ebay. Investigate them both, but for the best training ever and finding the best, more unknown niche markets, you will want to click on the link below and spend an hour exploring this site. It will be both fun and informative.

Click on the link below to find some great niche markets. You even have access to an entire training program that will walk you step by step through the whole niche market selling process. Yes, there is a fee, but it is small compared to the results you can get. So click on the link to explore the possibilities.

A Gripe About Ebay - Sellers Get Screwed - My Rant

Please excuse my language, but it's really true. The p0wer is now in the hands of the buyer, not equally in the hands of both the buyer and the seller. I am both a buyer and a seller on Ebay and in all fairness, I don't see how Ebay is presenting a balance by prohibiting the seller to leave negative feedback for the buyer. Ebay's reasoning from what I can gather is that they don't want to lose any of their buyers. My reasoning? Without sellers, there are no buyers. Why pick on the sellers?

For example, I recently had a buyer whom I shipped a $15 product to. Ebay told me that they were investigating a complaint (mind you I had 100% positive feedback at the time and over 1500 positives). I provided Paypal with the tracking information and proof of delivery they requested. I have no idea what they told Ebay, but all I know is that it went into a dispute (automatically) through Paypal. I provided all of the documentation, ie. the fact that it was shipped the SAME day, proof through tracking that it was actually delivered, and proof of any of the correspondence sent to the customer. The end result? The customer won. I lost $40 due to fees, reversal charges, refunding not only the money for the product, but the money for the postage and I had to pay Paypal $10 for the privilege of my losing the case. In addition, I lost the $15 on the product. What could I do about it? Nothing. No recourse. No one to communicate with to find out why. It just happened. Paypal's decision was final and no explanation was given. They just took their $10 and went away.

So, if you have a buyer who decides randomly to cancel their order and who gives Ebay a good story, true or not, you will lose. You will not be able to complain. You will have to eat the costs through Paypal and you will start to get a bit miffed.

To top it off, I had another one last week. I work hard to build my Ebay business and as you can imagine, I almost blew a gasket! Another reversal, two in one month whereas before the changes, I hadn't had any, just 3 neutrals (two that were put in by mistake because the person thought neutral meant OK and I still cannot find the 3rd one although it is showing up in my feedback.

The one last week said it was under investigation and Paypal removed the $17.00 or so that had been paid to me while they investigated the chargeback. Surprisingly, the chargeback was made AFTER the buyer received their product AND left me POSITIVE feedback. . . oooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I wanted to scream! So, sorry, now I'm screaming!

Anyway, my point is, Ebay is the giant and I am just a number who is running a small business. My Ebay fees last month were a mere $380 on sales of just over $1700 . . .My little fee amount may not be that great but take the thousands of us who give Ebay $380 for fees and add that up and it may make a dent in what Ebay makes. If all of the little guys go away because we are put out of business by negative feedback or higher Ebay fees, then Ebay may have to rethink their decisions to make the sellers the fall guys.

Ebay Ups and Downs - Let's Take Designer Baby Clothing as An Ebay Example

After reading the millionaires ebook you will be able to bypass most of the downs of buying and selling on Ebay. But let's suppose you haven't gotten the book yet or don't think you need it. Here are some things you may encounter. I know I did when I started building my tiny ebay empire.

I decided to sell baby and kids clothing. Why? Because a friend of mine does and she makes about $700 a month when she spends a week listing stuff into wee hours of the morning after homeschooling and taking care of 4 kids all day. But she still makes about that much consistently every month. She only read one book that I gave her because that's all the time she has and it was on selling antiques on Ebay. She's good at picking those too. She's the kind of mom that seems to be able to do it all and still do it all pretty well.

So I went baby clothing shopping. My first mistake. I don't like to shop and therefore, because I don't like to shop, I don't shop often. I wouldn't know a baby clothing bargain if one jumped in my basket. I did look at the prices and when I saw 50% off, I thought that was pretty good. If it was cute and was something I'd buy, I bought it. My second mistake. What I think is cute, you may not. Don't buy what you think you would like. Buy what you think others would like. How do you do that? How do you know what others would like? You don't, unless you do some research on Ebay.

Is this getting more complicated? Now do you see why you might want to read the book first? Trust me, you will short cut the process tremendously. Why go through trial and error when it has already been done for you? Here's the link. JUST CLICK HERE! Don't worry. I will keep on going in my next blog and continue the clothing example and others in later blogs. Remember though, you will learn something from me, but I am not the millionaire expert (at least not yet).

Ebay Millionaire Publishes Book You Will Want to Read

When it comes to starting a serious Ebay business, you must have the proper tools from day one or you will waste so much time and even money trying to build your business on the slow track.

I could not believe how much time I wasted. I had read many articles and paid for several ebooks dealing with Ebay, but there was always something missing. Then comes along another guru who says he can teach all of us how to duplicate his efforts. So, I decided to see what he had to offer.

All I can say now is that I wish I had come across his book a long time ago. I would have saved so much time and effort.

Building an ebay business isn't going to happen overnight, but if you are going to do it, do it the right way. If you are serious about learning how to build even a small Ebay business the right way, then CLICK HERE to be taken to the Auction Lord's site.

You can do it on your own, but why would you want to. The hours I wasted could have been spent building my Ebay business into profitability much sooner. I still have a long way to go but at least I have a millionaire's blueprint to follow.

Protecting Yourself from Illegitimate Wholesale Suppliers

Whether you are planning on buying wholesale to sell or buying wholesale products to keep for yourself, you need to have all of the facts about wholesale suppliers.

The following article is supplied as a courtesy from salehoo.com. It is an important article that is a must read for anyone who is even contemplating using wholesale suppliers.

There are so many scams out there that you need to protect yourself. This salehoo article will save you time and money and may keep you from getting scammed.

Protecting Yourself from Illegitimate Wholesale Suppliers

Written by SaleHoo © All Rights Reserved

While many fantastic wholesale sources can be found online, there are also a huge number of sites developed specifically to scam sellers looking for a good deal.

So how do you tell whether you are dealing with a real wholesale supplier?

First of all:

A supplier may be selling fakes of big name brands but this doesn't necessarily mean he is out to scam you. There are many suppliers in China and other countries selling fakes, but as long as you realize what you are buying, that is not a problem in itself.

The supplier may say they can only accept Western union and wire transfers as payment. These are insecure payment methods, but for Chinese suppliers, these are often the only two options available as credit cards (and therefore Paypal) are almost impossible to get. You should always take the precaution of ordering only a small amount when dealing with a supplier who only takes Western Union and wire transfer for the first time, but many legitimate manufacturers and wholesalers use these methods out of necessity rather than because they are illegitimate.

The Warning Signs

Warning bells should start ringing if you come across any of the following:

Fake address - either it doesn't exist or it exists in a poor or residential area.

No contact details listed on the website.

When you call, the telephone is answered by an individual who does not identify himself on picking up the phone.

You are not asked for a business or tax number.

The company suddenly stop replying to your emails.

Parts of the text or images on their site are copies from other websites.

When you place an order, the company claims they do not have any stock, but want to receive the money before ordering any in.

Your contact becomes shifty when you ask for a product sample

Steps to Protecting Yourself

To find out whether you are dealing with a scammer, try these tips:

Copy and paste some text into Google. If it is copied from another site, you'll soon discover it in the search results.

Check that the website gives a full business name and a registration number.Ring them to verify the phone number given is good, but don't accept a mobile phone number as enough, all companies should have a land line number.

As for a photograph of the stock with the company logo in the background. Go to www.coolwhois.com and search for the name of the website. A legitimate company will have been operating for over a year (at least!) and their expiration date will be for several years time.

Most legitimate companies reserve their domain names for 3-5 years or more at a time.

Use secure payment methods such as Escrow, Cod and Paypal Verified whenever possible.

Ask other sellers what their experiences have been with the company on forums.

How to Be Successful on Ebay - Try This!

Another piece of advice for being successful on Ebay is to build a website around your Ebay products. For example, if you sell travel related services then you will want to build a website where you can put your link on the website and point to Ebay. If you check out http://www.dreamcancunresorts.com for example, you will see that there is a display of Ebay items up for auction. This code can easily be put on any website regardless of what you are selling.

Another website to check out would be : http://www.dirttrackautoracing.com If you look through the pages you will see both Ebay and Amazon ads, along with Google Adsense displayed throughout the pages. This website can be further monitized and can point traffic to your Ebay products or store.
